The World tallest man gets married

MARDIN, TURKEY - OCTOBER 26: The World's tallest man Sultan Kosen (L) poses with his fiancee Merve Dibo during their henna night, the ceremony held one day before the wedding, on October 26, 2013 in the Dede village of Mardin, Turkey. The World's tallest man, whose height is measured at 2 meters 51 centimeters, Sultan Kosen is set to marry Merve Dibo of Syrian descent on October 27, 2013 in the southern Turkish city of Mardin. In addition to his height, Kosen also entered the Guinness Book of World Records due to the size of his hands and feet, which are recorded at 27.5 centimeters and 36.5 centimeters respectively. It may sound clichéd but the world’s tallest man is on cloud nine after meeting the woman of dreams.

Sultan Kosen, who stands at 2.52m (8ft 3in) tall, had given up on finding love as women were put off by his stature – until he met Merve Dibo.

The couple wed in Turkey today – and even though farmer Mr Kosen, 30, towers over Ms Dibo, who stands at 1.73m (5ft 8in) tall, the couple couldn’t be happier, he said.

‘Now I will have my own family and private life,’ he told reporters.

Recalling his long search for love and happiness, he added: ‘How unfortunate I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. But in my fiancee I’ve found the person for me.’

Now his dream of finding love has come true, he hopes to find a car big enough for his huge frame so his bride can travel by his side.

After becoming the world’s tallest man in 2009, Mr Kosen achieved near celebrity status, and as a result the couple had plenty of VIPs to invite to their nuptials in his home city of Mardin.

Guests included a host of politicians, including Turkey’s president Abdullah Gul and prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as religious leaders and high-profile businessmen.

Not surprisingly, Mr Kosen, who also holds Guinness World Records for the person with the biggest hands – 27.5cm (11ins) long – and  feet – 36.5cm (14ins) in length… he wears size 28 shoes – had to have a wedding suit specially-tailored for the event.

He suffers from a  rare disorder called pituitary gigantism, which causes his body to continually produce the growth hormone. Doctors believe his condition was caused by a tumour on his pituitary gland, which was removed in 2008.

Mr Kosen grew normally until the age of ten when the tumour caused his growth to increase at a rapid rate – which was only halted until last year.

He is one of only ten people to grow above 2.44m – 8ft – and surpassed China’s Bao Xishun as the world’s tallest man four years ago. He stands at a height of 2.36m (7ft 9ins).

During a visit to Britain two years ago, Mr Kosen said: ‘The kids used to tease me and I found that very difficult. But now I am really proud of being  tall.’

Robert Wadlow of Illinois, in the US, who died aged 22 in 1940,  was the world’s tallest ever man, reaching a height of 2.72m ( 8ft 11.1ins).
