Home put for sale after spotting Satanic goat

The haunting spectre of a satanic goat has left a woman so terrified of her home that she's put it up for sale.
Vanessa Mitchell's cottage has been dubbed "Britain's most haunted" after a series of spooky incidents prompted the terrified home owner to search for a brave buyer.
The 43-year-old claims to have been shoved while heavily pregnant, smacked on the bottom and to have seen blood splattered across her floor whilst living in the house in St Osyth, Essex.
The property, also known as "The Cage", was formerly a medieval prison and is said to have hosted one of England's most infamous witch trials, in which eight women were killed.
Despite its chequered past, Vanessa stayed in the house for 11 years but decided to proceed with the sale after CCTV footage revealed the face of a "satanic goat" looming over her son's cot. She said: "I honestly believe the house is cursed, I have lived there for years but for me seeing a tall dark figure standing between me and my son’s cot was the final straw for me.
"There's something evil there in there, something demonic, whatever it is that's keeping the other spirits trapped inside. "I have seen more than I could ever have imagined over the years in the Cage - from being attacked while I was pregnant to being smacked on the backside." She continued: "I was never warned about the paranormal activity in the house when I bought it and think I was drawn to it to try to help the house.
"The house has always constantly been up for sale before I bought it, it's a lovely house in a perfect location in a nice quaint village but what's in the house makes people move in as little as six months. "A couple of hundred years ago one man bought the Cage for £150 and sold it for £50 less shortly after just to get rid of it. "I'm selling the house now because the house is getting worse we're catching evidence all the time of the tortured spirits inside, I've had every medium, psychic and investigator in there to try and get rid of what's in there."

Man jealously kills wife, accuse her of cheating

A husband has been jailed for 17 years after he killed his wife by stabbing her at least 15 times then running her over with his car because he thought she was having an affair with a neighbour.

Minta Adiddo sent Akua Agyeman a Christmas card as she was being treated in hospital, blaming the attack on ‘devils’, the Old Bailey heard.

The 32-year-old mother of two died two months after the brutal stabbing, which was witnessed by her five-year-old daughter.

Adiddo, 38, was today given a life sentence after being convicted of murder, with a minimum term of 17 years.

The Sainsbury’s worker from Enfield, North London, had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, although he denied murder.

The court heard he suspected his wife was having an affair with their neighbour Oledapo Etti-Williams .

Mr Etti-Williams denied it, but said they exchanged three to four ‘sometimes flirtatious’ texts a day – and phone records showed they had sometimes sent as many as 80 messages in one day.

Adiddo stabbed his wife with a large kitchen knife in their bedroom while their one-year-old daughter slept in a cot next to them.

Ms Agyeman managed to escape through the living room window, waking neighbours with her screams.

But her husband chased her down and stabbed her again in the street as she lay on the ground, leaving her with 15 separate stab wounds.

When he realised she still wasn’t dead he got in his car and tried to run her over, almost ploughing into shocked witnesses who were tending to her.

Ms Agyeman’s last words as she lay injured were to ask if her children were all right.

She fought for her life in hospital for nearly two months, but she was so badly injured that she would have been permanently paralysed if she had survived.

Adiddo fled the scene but was arrested after police spotted him driving his car shortly the next day still wearing his blood-stained shirt.

In a phone call to a relative he admitted stabbing his wife and said he planned to kill himself before police caught up with him.

When Ms Agyeman was in the the Royal London Hospital, Adiddo sent her a Christmas card ascribing his behaviour to ‘Satan’ and ‘devils’.

‘I know the devil used Williams to destroy our family,’ he wrote. ‘Please, please, please, I need forgiveness from you – open yourself to God.’

In victim impact statements read to the court, Ms Agyeman’s family said the ‘vibrant, sociable and intelligent’ 32-year-old was ‘irreplaceable.’

The judge heard her relatives in Ghana were now struggling financially without her support.

They said they had accepted Adiddo as a son and treated him with respect and dignity ‘but all he has done is inflict pain and suffering on our family’.

The court heard her two daughters are now being cared for by relatives but the family are ‘forever saddened’ she won’t get to see them grow up.

Sentencing, judge Brian Barker QC said: ‘I accept this was not a planned killing but was done out of frustration and temper, and in my view was cowardly and selfish.

‘This was a shocking waste of a vibrant life and loss of a mother which will be long felt.

‘I was moved by the words of her family who described Akua as a loving sister, caring for her children and extended family in Ghana, and providing financially for them.

‘They feel betrayed by your actions and find it very difficult to move on. There is nothing we can do or say to turn back the clock but she will not be forgotten.’

Online Girlfriend welcome Boyfriend with a base ball bat

Police say an Alabama man who traveled to Oregon to live with a woman he met online not only struck out — he got struck in the skull. Sgt. Chris Baldridge of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said that Samuel Campbell (26) of Adger, Ala., met Haley Fox (24) of Turner in 2013 and the two began an online relationship. This past week, Campbell traveled to Oregon to meet Fox in person for the first time. He planned to live with her. A probable cause affidavit states that when he arrived on Wednesday, Campbell was led by Fox to a table outside her home on the 7000 block of Lipscomb Road Southeast. Once he sat down, she poured him some wine and then told him to close his eyes. When he did, she proceeded to bash him in the back of the head three times with a metal baseball bat. According to the affidavit, “Fox stated she played softball from grades 4-11 and knew how to hold a bat.” According to Baldridge, Fox told investigators she injured Campbell because she did not want to be his girlfriend. Court documents state another woman appeared after the bat attack, and the victim reported hearing them talk about using duct tape to bind him. The man told detectives he believed he was going to die. He then convinced the women that he would not disclose what happened if they would just take him to the hospital, according to court documents, and they agreed. The woman who plotted with Fox, 26-year-old Jennifer Beaumont, has been interviewed by police, but is not facing charges at this time. Court documents state that the victim suffered a fractured skull and required nine staples to the head. He was released from the hospital after receiving treatment. Fox was booked in the Marion County Jail on the charge of first-degree assault but has since posted bail. She was released from custody thereafter. According to court records, Fox has no prior criminal history. She will be back in court April 20

Girlfriend glue boyfriend on a chair

A lady tricked boyfriend to sit on a chair with a waxing strip on his birthday.  She made sure she got painful revenge on her prankster boyfriend after he tricked her into believing he had put her dog in the washing machine. Although he revealed it was a joke and said he was sorry, he had posted the video online where it quickly went viral. But her revenge came a few days later when she told the boyfriend she had a nice surprise for him waiting in the bedroom, as part of his birthday present. As he came out of the bathroom naked, she blindfolded him and led him to the chair, before quickly preparing the two waxing strips and telling him to sit down. She video him as well and posted on social media as he rips the chair free, leaving a fair portion of skin and hair behind in the process, and runs through the house screaming in pain.

A woman married to her 2 male Cats celebrates 10 years anniversarry

Barbarella Buchner broke up with her partner of 7 years married to her 2 Male Cat.

When Barbarella Buchner broke up with her partner of seven years, she thought that she would never find love again.

But then the 48-year-old realised her soulmates had been standing in front for her the whole time – her two cats.

Barbarella married her two male pet cats called Spider and Lugosi, and they celebrated their 10-year anniversary in January.

She even proved her everlasting devotion to her two feline husbands by getting their initials tattooed on her right leg.

The web designer from Forest Gate, London says: “My two cats are my soul mates. They’re the loves of my life.

“Before when I had a human relationship, he’d come home and we’d argue over something or he’d want to chat when I don’t want to chat.

“Lugosi and Spider are different – I’m definitely happily married to them.

“I’m not alone, I have my cats now. I have no regrets and I don’t care what people say.”

Cat-mad Barbarella has always been an animal lover. Growing up, she always had pet moggies.

She says: “As a child, I was always surrounded by cats – our family always owned at least one or two of them.

“I can’t remember ever not being a cat lover or a lover of animals in general. But cats have always been my favourite.”

However Barbarella was never satisfied with the relationship she had with her family cats – and always wanted some pets to call her very own.

She explains: “Those cats were never my cats. They were adopted by my parents.

“I couldn’t have the relationship I wanted to because I didn’t feed our family cats. My parents fed them.

“I didn’t take them to the vets. My parents took them to the vets. The cats were more of a plaything to me at the time.

“But of course, my parents always taught me from an early age to respect cats and not be nasty to them.”

When Barbarella finally got the chance to adopt her own cats at the age of 34, she took the opportunity very seriously.

She says: “For me, it was like when you know you’re having a baby. Before you have a baby or adopt a child, you look on the internet to learn as much as possible.

“You read lots of books and attend support groups. That’s what I did as well before I adopted my cats.”

In March 2000, Barbarella adopted her 8-month-old tabby cats from an animal shelter in East London.

She says, “It was love at first sight when I laid my eyes on my two boys, Lugosi and Spider. I’ll never forget that day.

“They were rubbing themselves against the mesh and purring. It was all over – I knew I wanted those cats!

“I could tell the feeling of love was mutual judging by their purrs and the way they were brushing their little faces against the inside of their cage.

“These two tabby brothers were coming home with me!”

Barbarella – who now lives in Lanzarote, Spain – has been in a few long-term relationships with men but has never married.

She explains “I never really wanted to get married to any of my human partners and I didn’t know if I had it in me to be a wife.

“Some women are built to clean up after their men. I’m not like that.

“But I never minded being my cats’ servants. I’m not a submissive person but I’ll do anything for Lugosi and Spider.”

Barbarella says Lugosi and Spider were a comfort to her after her most serious relationship with her then-boyfriend broke down.

A young boy swallowed Guchi Bail while fishing

A young boy nearly died after swallowing a live 6.5 inch long Guchi Bail that lodged in his throat for five hours, doctors have revealed.

The unnamed 16-year-old boy had been fishing in Bangladesh when he caught
a 6.5 inch long Guchi Bail - Indian spiny eel - and placed it between his
 teeth.

Unfortunately the eel slipped out of his mouth and down his throat,
according to the UK-based science journal BioMed Central.

The youngster ran back to his house where his family saw the fish inside
his throat and frantically tried to pull it out only for it to slip further
 down.

He began having breathing problems and was taken to Dhaka Medical College
Hospital where doctors examined his throat but could not see the fish.

They decided to carry out an emergency operation in which they cut a hole
in the front of his neck and inserted a tube into his windpipe to help him
 breathe.

Five hours after the accident had occurred, doctors spotted the tail fin of
a fish through the hole they had created in his windpipe.

They were able to grab it with a pair of forceps and pull the fish out
 which by now was dead.

The boy's surgeon Kanu Sana later said: "This is the second case I have
 come across to date.
"

The other was a 45-year-old man who came from a rural village about 300
 kilometres away.

'It was 12 hours after he swallowed the fish. Unfortunately he didn't
 survive."

Understanding of Ebola: The killer virus

Health news has been dominated in recent days by the outbreak of the Ebola virus in west Africa, with more than 1,200 confirmed cases and 672 deaths. Cases have been confirmed in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. The World Health Organization estimates the current outbreak has a mortality rate of 56%.

 What is Ebola?

Ebola is a virus that can be spread through blood and bodily fluids. The virus originated in the west African rainforest and is thought to have spread to humans by handling or butchering infected animals. Once the virus enters the body it can replicate very quickly, causing a range of increasingly harmful symptoms, including internal bleeding. Left untreated it can have a mortality rate as high as 90%.

What are the symptoms of Ebola virus?

An infected person will typically develop a fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, sore throat, and intense muscle weakness. These symptoms start suddenly 2 to 21 days after becoming infected. Diarrhoea, vomiting, a rash, stomach pain and impaired kidney and liver function follow. The infected person may then bleed internally, as well as from the ears, eyes and mouth.

How is the Ebola virus spread?

People can become infected with the Ebola virus if they come into contact with the blood, body secretions or organs of an infected person. Some traditional African burial rituals may have played a part in its spread. The Ebola virus can survive for several days outside the body, including on the skin of an infected person. In parts of Africa it is common for mourners to touch the skin of the deceased.
A person then only needs to touch their mouth to become infected. Other ways people can catch the virus include: touching the soiled clothing of an infected person and then touching their mouth having sex with an infected person without using a condom (the virus can be present in semen for several weeks, possibly as many as seven, after an infected person has recovered) handling unsterilised needles or medical equipment that have been used on the infected person handling infected animals or coming into contact with their body fluids
A person is infectious as long as their blood and secretions contain the virus. Ebola virus is generally not spread through routine social contact such as shaking hands with patients without symptoms. The virus is not airborne, so it's not as infectious as diseases such as the flu – you'd need to get close to it to catch it.

 Who's at risk from Ebola?

Anyone who has close contact with an infected person or handles samples from patients is at risk of becoming infected. Hospital workers, laboratory workers and family members are at greatest risk.

How is Ebola diagnosed?

It's difficult to know if a patient is infected with Ebola virus in the early stages. The early symptoms of Ebola, such as fever, headache and muscle pain, are similar to those of many other diseases.

What are the treatments for Ebola?

There's currently no specific treatment or cure for the Ebola virus, although potential new vaccines and drug therapies are being developed and tested. Patients need to be treated in isolation in intensive care. Dehydration is common, so fluids may be given intravenously (directly into a vein). Blood oxygen levels and blood pressure will be maintained at the correct level, and the body organs supported while the patient recovers.

A 68 Year Old Man from Illinois has been charged for food tampering

Ronald G. Avers an old man of 68-year-old from Illinois has been charged with food tampering after he allegedly inserted sewing needles into packages of meat at a grocery store many times in the past year, an official said.

He was charged on Thursday with seven violations of a federal law against tampering with packaged meat, according to court documents. He will be in court again on Monday for a detention hearing.

Six customers and one employee at the Shop'n Save grocery in Belleville, Illinois in suburban St. Louis reported finding needles in hamburger, roast or steak products between May 2013 and July 2014, according to an FBI affidavit filed in federal court.

One customer found a needle in her mouth and another customer reported getting stuck in the hand.

Avers, who owned a pickup bearing a disabled veteran licence tag and shopped using a motorized scooter and oxygen tank, was seen on surveillance video handling meat products and putting them back on the shelves, the FBI said.

When police and the FBI questioned Avers outside the store on Tuesday, he admitted putting needles in meat, the FBI said. "Every now and then I would stick one in a hamburger," Avers told police, according to the affidavit.

Avers told investigators he didn't know why he put needles in the meat. "It was stupidity. I didn't want to hurt nobody," he was quoted as saying.

Avers said he did not put needles in meat at any other stores, the affidavit said.

The charges against Avers each carry up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 (148,474.14 pounds), said a news release from the U.S. attorney's office for the Southern District of Illinois.

What addictive watching of Ponography can cause to the brain

According to the research of German health researcher institute. Watching chicanery/Pornography or any adult developed films is a a natural occurrence  that is triggered by the body's senses. But, can too much of it have any effect on the body, especially the brain? A lot of research studies have seen disparity in arriving at conclusions in this regard. But going by the most credible sources, it is believed that too much of adult films, mostly in the form of pornography, can have effects on certain areas of the brain. In this article, let us evaluate the effects of pornography on the brain based on credible analysis.

Citing by a recent study conducted by a leading German health research institute, it was deciphered that watching excess pornography can have long-standing effects on certain areas of the brain. The effects of pornography are not just confined to the brain, although in this article, we look specifically at the effects of pornography on the brain. The source of the study conclusively states that specific areas of the brain can be messed up due to pornography addiction, this being one of the prime effects of pornography. Although the study has made convincing conclusions on adult films affecting certain areas of the brain, another concept pertaining to changes in brain structure hasn't seen decisive proof. Certain research studies have ascertained that pornography alters the brain structure. Although such is the case, there isn't conclusiveness in presenting facts and deriving explanations. It is yet to be understood whether pornography causes the brain to behave in a particular way or the brain structure of some individuals causes them to watch too much pornography. But the fact that areas, especially those related to memory and motivation, are faced with impediments due to too much pornography is part of the picture and cannot be overlooked. The research study also goes on state that watching excessive pornography can lead to stark reduction in brain size and brain activity. Response to sexual stimuli is also reduced over course of time. This is one of the main effects of pornography on the brain. A study conducted by a group of scientists from a leading research institute have taken live examples and subsequently evaluated the effects of pornography on the brain. As per the study, about 60 men between the ages 25 to 45 were surveyed and their sexual habits questioned. Further to asking them questions, images of their brain were taken and examined. It was understood that the striatum, an area of the brain responsible for vital functions like memory and reward processing, was comparatively lesser in those who had a major porn-watching habit. Moreover, response to sexual stimuli, triggered by an area in the striatum, was also seen to be reduced in size. Thus, according to results published by leading research institutes, although not thoroughly conclusive, effects of pornography on the brain cannot be underestimated.

Son couldn't recognise Father after two years of dramatic weight loss

One adolescent man returning home after two years in Brazil was totally shocked by his father’s massive shedding of weight.
Ty Higley had been working as a Mormon missionary in Brazil with bound contact back home, allowing his father to disguise the fact he had lost 140 pounds since saying goodbye to him.
Duane Higley had acclimated his son’s workout  videos to complete the transformation.
Young missionaries are only allowed two Skype calls a year meaning that, for one conversation, Duane had to wear multiple jumpers to fool his son.
The two men are now planning to run a half marathon together this summer.

Malcolm Glazer the owner of Man United is dead

Malcolm Glazer the owner of Man United is dead.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are saddened to announce the passing of Owner/President Malcolm Glazer earlier this morning at the age of 85," a statement on the Buccaneers website said on Wednesday. "A dynamic business leader, Glazer helped mould the Buccaneers into a model franchise and one respected league-wide." Glazer purchased Manchester United in 2005, controversially saddling the world famous club with hundreds of millions of dollars in debt in a leveraged buyout. Glazer's stewardship of United has coincided with a glut of silverware - including five Premier League crowns and the 2008 Champions League title - and has also been the subject of sustained anger from Manchester United's fan base. Fans have complained that Glazer's ownership model has forced United to spend millions of pounds servicing the club's debt - money which could have been spent on the transfer budget.

Fort hood shooting - Female cop saved the day from getting worse

A soldier has committed a deadly mass shooting at Texas' Fort Hood again. And again, a female police officer was involved in bringing the violent rampage to an end.
The military policewoman risked her life to ensure the bedlam wrought by Spc. Ivan Lopez came to a close in the second building he entered.
By then, Lopez, whom the Army chief of staff has described as a "very experienced soldier," had taken three lives and wounded 16 people -- all of them Army personnel. Without the officer's courageous actions, Wednesday's casualty count might have been higher.
"It was clearly heroic what she did in that moment in time," said Lt. Gen. Mark Milley, the post's commander. "She did her job, and she did exactly what we'd expect of a United States Army military police."
According to Milley, the melee began about 4 p.m. Lopez first walked into a unit building and opened fire. The 34-year-old Iraq veteran then left, got into a vehicle and continued firing the .45-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic that he had purchased off-base, Milley said.
Lopez exited the vehicle and walked into a second building, opening fire again, Milley said. It was there he "was engaged by local law enforcement here at Fort Hood."
"He was approaching her at about 20 feet. He put his hands up, then reached under his jacket, pulled out the (semiautomatic) and she pulled out her weapon," the lieutenant general said.
"She engaged, and then he put the weapon to his head and he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Milley said.
The shooting spree was over in about 15 or 20 minutes. The investigation into what spurred Lopez's violent revolt promises to take much longer.

Leopard causes chaos in India. Breaks into India Hospital

A leopard leaps across a construction site near a furniture market in the Degumpur residential area in Meerut, India on Sunday. The leopard sparked panic in the Indian city when it strayed into a hospital, a theater and an apartment complex before evading captors.
District magistrate Pankaj Yadav said: “We have closed schools and colleges in the town because we are unable to locate the leopard and do not want to take any chances. This is only a precautionary measure.

We are yet to locate the leopard. We have got calls from some areas but are still unable to trace its exact location.”

Officials said they were investigating reports that it had strayed into Meerut from the nearby forests.

Rescue teams of wildlife experts have been called in to help tranquilize and capture the animal, officials said.

There are no reliable population estimates for leopards in India, but rough estimates put their number at about 10,000.

Tigers and other big cats have been known to stray into populated areas and conservationists have warned that such confrontations may increase as humans encroach on animal habitats.

whistleblower Edward Snowden wins prestigious University role in Scotland

whistleblower Edward Snowden has been elected to the post of student rector at Glasgow University in Scotland, one of Britain's oldest universities.

Snowden, living in temporary asylum in Russia after disclosing U.S. government secrets on surveillance programs and other activities, faces criminal charges in the United States after fleeing last year first to Hong Kong and then Russia.

The former National Security Agency contractor was nominated for the post by a group of students at the university after receiving Snowden's approval through his lawyer.

University officials said the computer analyst beat three other candidates in an online vote that attracted a record turnout to win the three-year role of rector at the university, which dates back to 1451.

The rector is meant to represent student issues to university officials but it has previously served a political designation, having been held by Winnie Mandela in 1987 and Israeli whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu in 2005.

Chris Cassells, Snowden's spokesman for the campaign, said Glasgow University had a "proud and virtuous tradition" of making significant statements through its rectors.

"Today we have once more championed this idea by proving to the world that we are not apathetic to important issues such as democratic rights," Cassells said in a statement.

Snowden, in a statement to Britain's Guardian newspaper, said he was "humbled and honoured" by the vote, describing it as a bold and historic decision in support of academic freedom.

"In a world where so many of our developing thoughts and queries and plans must be entrusted to the open internet, mass surveillance is not simply a matter of privacy, but of academic freedom and human liberty," Snowden said.

7 people found Chained up in a dungeon of Pakistani Politician

A politician in Pakistan has been arrested after seven people - including two women and three children - were discovered chained up in a dungeon at his home, according to police.
They were discovered when Abdul Rehman Khetran's private guards attacked police at a checkpoint on Sunday and stole their weapons.
Officers then raided the MP's home in the Baluchistan province where they found the cellar.
Following the discovery, Khetran and his son were taken into custody, along with six members of the family’s security team.

According to Reuters, the chained captives had been mistreated however Khetran remained defiant, telling local press that his arrest was politically motivated.

Khetran, whose wife is also a politician, is an MP for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, a conservative religious party, and a former provincial minister for special education.
The mineral-rich western region of Baluchistan is deeply impoverished and a haven for smugglers, drug lords, Taliban insurgents and separatist rebels.

Ruth Iorio took to Facebook and shared intimate photos of her home birth.

The Los Angeles writer told huffington post that she has purported in her mind to post her unique experience, whether attractive or not and just to be honest about it.

The result was a raw, VERY personal look at the miracle of life, starting with contractions around 8:15 p.m. on Christmas and updates that included how the pain was akin to a "shitty period" and how she had a lot of diarrhea.

Iorio used a midwife to help with the birth and sat with her dog in bed a few hours into the labor

She wrote a lot about her "nasty" back pain and also asked: Why does no one say your asshole aches like hell, too? We told you this was awfully personal.

Ruth said she was "in and out of sleep" for a few minutes here and there, as "this beast" ripped her "back apart." Good thing the midwife was around to assist

In the end, of course, it was all worth it, as Ruth gave birth to a son named Nye.

She has to be transported to a hospital and remain there for two days due to a loss of blood after her placenta failed to be delivered.

China breaks record again - land softly on Moon

China on Saturday successfully carried out the world’s first soft landing of a space probe on the moon in nearly four decades, the next stage in an ambitious space program that aims to eventually have a Chinese astronaut set foot on the moon.
The unmanned Chang’e 3 lander, named after a mythical Chinese goddess of the moon, touched down on Earth’s nearest neighbor following a 12-minute landing process.
The lander carried a six-wheeled moon rover called “Yutu,” or “Jade Rabbit,” the goddess’ pet. After touching down Saturday evening on a fairly flat, Earth-facing part of the moon, the rover was slated to separate from the Chang’e eight hours after landing and embark on a three-month scientific exploration.
China’s space program is an enormous source of pride for the country, the third to carry out a lunar soft landing after the United States and the former Soviet Union. The last one was by the Soviet Union in 1976.
“It’s still a significant technological challenge to land on another world,” said Peter Bond, consultant editor for Jane’s Space Systems and Industry. “Especially somewhere like the moon, which doesn’t have an atmosphere so you can’t use parachutes or anything like that. You have to use rocket motors for the descent and you have to make sure you go down at the right angle and the right rate of descent and you don’t end up in a crater on top of a large rock.”
State-run China Central Television showed a computer-generated image of the Chang’e 3 lander’s path as it approached the surface of the moon, explaining that for about a 12-minute landing period it would have no contact with Earth. As it was just hundreds of meters (yards) away, the lander’s camera broadcast images of the moon’s surface.
The Chang’e 3’s solar panels, which are used to absorb sunlight to generate power, opened soon after the landing. The Chang’e 3 will set up antennae that will transmit pictures back to Earth.
A soft landing does not damage the craft and the equipment it carries. An earlier Chinese craft orbited and collected data before intentionally crash-landing on the moon.
The Chang’e mission blasted off from southwest China on Dec. 2 on a Long March-3B carrier rocket.
China’s military-backed space program has made methodical progress in a relatively short time, although it lags far behind the United States and Russia in technology and experience.
China sent its first astronaut into space in 2003, becoming the third nation after Russia and the United States to achieve manned space travel independently. In 2006, it sent its first probe to the moon. China plans to open a space station around 2020 and send an astronaut to the moon after that.
“They are taking their time with getting to know about how to fly humans into space, how to build space stations ... how to explore the solar system, especially the moon and Mars,” Bond said. “They are making good strides, and I think over the next 10, 20 years they’ll certainly be rivaling Russia and America in this area and maybe overtaking them in some areas.”
