Michigan man lays claim to $25 million reward for tipping feds to Bin Laden hideout

Tom Lee, 63, of Grand Rapids, Mich., claims to have “accurately reported” in 2003 to an FBI special agent that Osama bin Laden was hiding in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Lee, a gem merchant, has now retained a lawyer and is seeking the $25 million reward for giving a tip that lead to the Al-Qaida leader’s discovery, according to a letter sent in August to FBI Director James Comey by an attorney for the Loevy & Loevy firm.

The government has declared that the raid on bin Laden’s compound came as the result of electronic surveillance of his couriers, and would pay no bounty for bin Laden. Lee’s account differs from numerous published reports noting that the bin Laden compound had not been completed until 2005. U.S. officials were quoted as saying it was believed bin Laden didn’t move to the complex until early 2006. One of bin Laden’s wives who was taken into custody following the 2011 raid reportedly told interrogators they’d been there for five or six years.

Suffers saved woman from drowning in rough sea

Three surfers have saved a woman from drowning after she was hit by a large wave and thrown from her surfboard in rough seas.

The 38-year-old Londoner was dragged underwater by a three-metre surge of water as she surfed off the coast of South Fistral in Newquay, Cornwall, just before 5pm on Friday.

Jordan Henwood, who was in the water surfing with two friends, spotted the woman struggling in the sea and tried to haul her to safety on some nearby rocks.

But the pair were then both hit by a second massive wave and were submerged in the swell.

His friends Will Eastham, 36, a retained fireman at Newquay fire station, and Dean Scott, 20, dashed over and pulled the pair to safety.

Father-of-two Mr Eastham said: "The first wave hit and took her off into the water. She was struggling.

"One of the other lads, Jordan Henwood, managed to climb in [off the rocks] and grab her and pull her up to the rocks.

"But then a second massive wave hit and washed them both into the water."

Mr Scott threw Mr Henwood his surfboard so he could pull himself up, while Mr Eastham hauled the woman out of the water and on to his board.

The keen surfer, who owns a surfboard shop, said: "I picked her up and dumped her on the board and swam out of the surf. Dean came out with me. We took her quite far out where the waves weren't breaking.

"Luckily for her there were people around. It could have been a very different story."

Two lifeboats were dispatched to the scene and pulled the woman to their boat and ferried her to shore.

The woman, who has not been named, had cuts to her feet, a dislocated finger and had swallowed sea water.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene but was said to be in a remarkably good condition given her ordeal, and was later taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske), in Truro.

Geoff Brown, deputy launching officer at Newquay lifeboats, said: "When the first boat arrived on the scene they found the lady had been separated from her board and had been knocked around in the surf. She had a dislocated finger, lacerations to her feet and there was a concern that she had swallowed a lot of sea water.

"She was being supported by two surfers, they saw that she was in trouble and had gone in to assist her.

"There was a heavy swell yesterday, around three metres. It was quite a rough sea yesterday.

"It would appear that she was in a remarkably good condition."

He praised the bravery of the quick-thinking surfers, and said: "They did a very, very good job in getting to her in the first place and supporting her until the lifeboat arrived.

"It is any guess what would have happened if they hadn't been there, their prompt action and bravery made a huge difference."

A storm brewing in the Atlantic brought gale-force winds which stirred up large waves on the coast, and Mr Brown warned the bad weather and choppy conditions would last for the next few days.

He said: "We have got another storm breaking this weekend. To anyone venturing into the sea on the south-west we are expecting another storm with strong winds and a heavy swell. People need to be extra careful if they are in or on the water."

Ken Bazeley, watch officer at Falmouth coastguard, praised the surfers for their bravery.

He said: "This happens quite a bit, but thank goodness people do assist each other in these conditions. They played their part and we are grateful they assisted."

Chris Brown to spend about 3 months in rehab

Chris Brown will spend up to three months in treatment for his anger issues as he looks to get a handle on his temper, according to a new report.

There has been no firm decision on a precise duration of time Brown will stay in rehab (he's at a Malibu, Calif., location) but three months is a good bet.

Everyone in Brown's camp, including Chris, is open to that length of time.

Sounds like it's serious, too, even if it is largely a play to avoid prison.

"The rehab facility has been told to take him [Brown] apart and put him back together," a source close to the constantly embattled singer tells TMZ.

Chris Brown checked into rehab last night, specifically to seek treatment for his anger problem, which manifested itself Sunday morning when he was arrested.

He allegedly punched a guy in the face for photobombing him and/or trying to get on his tour bus, and spent a day and a half in a jail cell as a result.

The 24-year-old was eventually cut loose and the charge was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. He is due back in court Monday, November 25.

For this particular fight, he will not be given jail time. But even a lesser conviction or merely a criminal charge could trigger a violation of his probation.

Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos, knows it's likely that a judge will revoke Brown's probation for beating Rihanna, which could put him behind bars.

It's undoubtedly strategic, but the rehab move is an act of good faith, showing Brown is dealing with his problems, and hopefully he takes it seriously.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of who gets beaten up next and when. Karrueche Tran is standing by her man for now, but he's running out of second chances.

The Texas doctor of the Pop Superstar 'Michael Jackson' wants his medical license back

THE Texas doctor convicted in the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson is suing the state for stripping his right to practice medicine, and his attorney says the cardiologist has former patients eager for him to work again.
Conrad Murray, who was released from a California jail this week after serving less than two years for involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death, accuses the Texas Medical Board of prematurely revoking his license. Murray claims in his lawsuit filed in Austin that his 2011 conviction isn't final in California until his appeals are exhausted.

Murray states in an affidavit that he is more than $400,000 in debt and can't afford to pay court costs.

"Anybody who wants to work in this country ought to be able to have the right to do so. Dr. Murray is like everyone else, in that he needs to be able to do his line of work," said Charles Peckham, Murray's attorney.

Texas Medical Board spokesman Jarrett Schneider said the agency cannot comment on pending litigation.

Murray was convicted of causing Jackson's death in June 2009 by providing him with the powerful anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid. Jackson was in the midst of preparations for a series of comeback concerts and Murray was serving as his physician.

Murray filed the lawsuit Friday, three days before he was freed after serving half of a maximum four-year sentence.

Murray previously maintained clinics in Houston and Las Vegas. His medical license is currently suspended in California.

In court papers filed in Texas, Murray expresses concern that the revocation of his Texas license could give California reason to take the same action.

"The Texas Medical Board, in taking my license puts me in imminent harm of irreparable injury," Murray said in court papers.

Brian Panish, an attorney for the Jackson family, has said Murray should not have "a chance to hurt anyone else" by practicing medicine.

Luis Suarez vs Wayne Rooney for PFA fans' award for October

It is a measure of the consistency Wayne Rooney has shown this season, under mentor David Moyes, that he was again in the running for the latest PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award.
Last month, the Manchester United striker missed out on the September prize to Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey, and this time around it’s Luis Suarez who has denied Rooney another personal accolade.
As he continued to serve his lengthy ban for the infamous biting incident involving Branislav Ivanovic,, many wondered whether Suarez would ever wear the red of Liverpool again.
A move away from Anfield – with the Emirates one of a number of likely destinations – was widely predicted, but like the Phoenix from the flames, Suarez has risen again as the idol of the Kop.
Whilst some continued to question his commitment to the cause, Suarez has gone about his business with both supreme professionalism and brilliance that knows no bounds.
After sitting out the early part of the season, the Uruguayan chose October to send out a dual message to the world – I’m here to stay...and I’m here to win trophies.
Suarez marked his first Anfield appearance since April with a goal in the 3-1 win against Crystal Palace, and ended the month with a stunning hat-trick against West Brom.
Brendan Rodgers hailed Suarez as ‘a complete striker’ and said: “Luis’s first goal, his invention in front of goal, was incredible and his two other goals were first class.
“He can score all types of goals, he is a tireless worker and I knew once I got the commitment from him in the summer he wasn't going to walk out. He's been great from then on."
Whilst Suarez has produced a number of moments of individual genius, he would be the first to give credit to his super strike partner Daniel Sturridge – the new SAS of the Premier League.
Sturridge also polled plenty of votes for his performances for club and country during October, but was edged out of the top three by Rooney and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
Rooney feels loved, wanted and appreciated once again at Old Trafford after a much-publicised falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson – and he puts it all down to new man at the helm Moyes. “You can tell by the way I’m playing I’m enjoying my football,” Rooney said recently. "David Moyes has come in and he's playing me up front and I'm loving it. I really have been happy all summer.”
Moyes is a happy bunny too, not least after Rooney inspired a dramatic and much-needed comeback against Stoke last weekend when the vultures were circling above the new United boss.
"It's been great working with Wayne because he's an excellent footballer. I've said from day one he's been great,” said Moyes. “He's in good nick, his talent is unquestionable.”
Unquestionable talent is a description which could easily be attached to Arsenal’s record summer signing Mesut Ozil who has quickly become the lead conjuror in the Gunners’ magical midfield.
Goals against Napoli and Norwich (2) have cemented the instant love between Ozil and the Arsenal faithful, and Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer too.
‘Fantastic...amazing...outstanding’ are just three words used by Wenger to describe his £42.5m man, and he adds: “His skill, his finishing, it's what you want to see when you come and watch football.”

Broner-Maidana heats up in San Antonio

An enthusiastic crowd of hundreds of boxing fans turned out for an to the public press conference on the floor of the Alamodome Thursday as Golden Boy Promotions formally announced DANGER ZONE, headlined by a highly anticipated matchup between undefeated WBA welterweight champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) and former WBA junior welterweight champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) on Saturday, December 14.

Adrian Broner: After I f**k him up on December 14, I’m willing to fight anybody. I don’t care. You can switch trainers all you want. You can train a different way. That sh*t ain’t gonna win you a fight. Skills win you fights. This is an individual sport. You can go lift weights with your teeth. You can go push cars for two months. That sh*t ain’t gonna help you in the ring man. I’m blessed. I got the skills to pay the bills and I got enough will, my last name could be Smith.

I don’t know if he’s faking that he doesn’t speak English. But after December 14, he’s gonna speak English and I don’t think the fight is going the full twelve rounds. I’m going for the knockout…The Argentine fighters are strong for six rounds. They can’t go much past six. This fight is over shortly after the sixth.

There’s a lot of people here that hate me, but y’all really love me. Hate is just love at the end of the day. Y’all just don’t know it yet. So after the performance I put on December 14, I hope my haters become fans because I love all y’all. And I’m not going to take nobody’s woman this fight. This ain’t that kind of fight.

Marcos Maidana: This is a fight I wanted. I wanted to fight the best. I wanted to fight for the title. Adrien Broner right now is the champion so I promise you I’m prepared now, but I’m going to get even better prepared with my team.

Every fight I’ve improved, I’ve changed things in my arsenal. Come December 14, you’re going to see a world champion in Chino Maidana. The key is to throw a lot of punches. Pressure him. Kick his ass. And that’s what I am going to do.

At the airport in Montreal, Halloween pumpkins found filled with cocaine

Pumpkins confiscated by Canadian border officials in a Montreal airport

A different kind of Halloween surprise has been found in pumpkins this year by Canada's border services agency.

Authorities believe three pumpkins found in a woman's luggage at the Trudeau International airport in Montreal on Thursday were stuffed with approximately 2kg (4.4 pounds) of cocaine.

Scanning equipment detected masses inside the pumpkins, which turned out to be bags filled with the chalky substance. A border agency spokeswoman was not able to say where the passenger was coming from or whether she was a Canadian citizen.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have taken over the investigation.
