Real Madrid revealed why they sold Mesut Ozil to Arsenal

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed why the side sold Mesut Ozil to Arsenal and decided to stick with Angel di Maria, instead. According to The Daily Express, the Italian has said that Ozil was inferior to the Argentine in the aspects of ‘dynamism and character’ despite being superior in quality and that Gareth Bale’s arrival to the club also played a crucial role in his exit.

Ancelotti said: “I decided the departure of Ozil. I prefer Di Maria for the balance of the team. It’s true, that maybe Di Maria has less quality than Ozil but on a profile of dynamism, character and help to the team I preferred Di Maria. With the arrival of Bale it was better to have Di Maria than Ozil.”

The manager also criticised Los Blancos players for questioning the club’s decision to sell the German playmaker, pointing out that the players need to be professional and avoid such comments about the players coming and going from the Bernabeu.

Ozil’s departure from Real Madrid has led to a number of their players criticising the sale of the 25 year old. On the other hand, the German himself has been a revelation for the Gunners (as expected!), scoring thrice and providing 4 assists in 8 appearances for the north Londoners.

While Gareth Bale’s arrival was sure to usher the team into a momentary phase of unsettlement, the dip in Real’s form this season has been evident for the fans to see and raise further question marks on the logic of Ozil’s sale
