Arsenal and Chelsea told they will need a heap of cash to land superstar striker
Chelsea and Arsenal have both lacked a quality striker for some time now. In their hour of need it seems that both the clubs have turned to Karim Benzema. However, Carlo Ancelotti is not going to make it easy for the London duo.
The French striker has failed to hit peak form so far this season but Carlo Ancelotti affirmed that Benzema was the first choice striker at Real Madrid. However, in the same breath, Ancelotti also said that he was planning to play youngster Morata instead in their match against Levante, which led many to suggest that the Italian’s statement was simply a ploy to increase Benzema’s asking price.
Ancelotti said: “Benzema is the first-choice striker but Morata might play against Levante. Though he hasn’t scored, I’m very happy with Benzema.”
Chelsea have been keeping an eye on Benzema ever since it became clear that their record breaking buy Fernando Torres can never reach the levels that he did at Liverpool.
Arsenal too are interested in Benzema with fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger harbouring a long term interest in his compatriot. Wenger was also interested in Benzema’s former teammate Higuain before the Argentine chose to move to Napoli instead.
Benzema will not come cheap though, with Los Blancos certain to demand a princely sum for the Frenchman in an attempt to use the funds to bring Luis Suarez to the Santiago Bernabeu.
